Charitable Work
Charity has always been a fundamental principle of Masonry, and we take pride in our 300-year tradition of assisting those in need. Every year, our members play a vital role at local, national, and global levels by contributing their time and money to make a genuine difference to numerous organisations and communities.
This is why Masonry ranks among the largest charitable contributors in the country, donating £51.1 million to worthy causes in 2020 alone. Masons do more than just give money—our members collectively volunteer over 18.5 million hours in their communities each year.
Our members are involved in various activities, including community fundraising and volunteering, alongside a diverse programme of events where spouses, partners, and families are warmly welcomed. We’ve made significant donations nationwide to support local air ambulances, blood bikes, and the provision of emergency response vehicles.
Masonry also makes a significant impact on medical research, funding UK scientists in their quest to develop treatments for cancer, diabetes, heart disease, Alzheimer’s, and many other conditions, leading to groundbreaking discoveries.
The Masonic Charitable Foundation (MCF)

Funded entirely by Masons, the MCF builds better lives by encouraging opportunity, promoting independence and improving wellbeing. It offers a wide range of grants and support services for financial, health, family and care-related needs.
Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution (RMBI)

The RMBI provides residential care, nursing care and residential dementia support to older Masons, their families and people in the wider community. It supports more than 1,000 residents across 18 care homes in England and Wales for both Masons and non-Masons.
The Freemasons Fund For Surgical Research (FFRS)

The Freemasons’ Fund for Surgical Research (FFSR) is a charitable organisation that provides grants to Research Fellows of the Royal College of Surgeons (RCS England) to pursue groundbreaking research projects.
Teddies for Loving Care Charity (TLC)

A hospital visit can be a frightening experience for a young child, especially in an emergency situation. Teddies for Loving Care (TLC) is a way of providing much-needed comfort to children, helping to reduce the shock and distress of their experience.
