There was a little more to a recent wreath presentation than simply handing over a wreath!
Professor Stephen Tucker, Head of Oxfordshire Freemasonry, met with representatives from the Oxonian Chapter of the Widows Sons Masonic Bikers Association (WSMBA) to hand over a commemorative wreath on behalf of Freemasons across Oxfordshire.
The wreath will make its way to the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire in November, where members of the Widows Sons will join bikers from across the country to deliver wreaths for a special remembrance event at the Masonic Memorial Garden.
While Stephen was there to hand over the wreath, the Oxonian Chapter had a surprise of their own, the members decided to make him an Honorary Member of the Chapter.
And they didn’t stop there!
They presented him with his very own Widows Sons ‘cut’, officially welcoming him into the Chapter. He was also given his Widows Sons name ‘The Prof’.
We’re not sure whether Stephen knew quite what he was letting himself in for, but he certainly seemed pleased with his new status!
The occasion was a great example of the friendship that exists between the Widows Sons and Freemasons across Oxfordshire, combining a shared passion for motorcycling with charity, community and, of course, a bit of fun along the way.
The Oxonian Chapter will now take the Oxfordshire wreath on its journey to the National Memorial Arboretum, where it will be laid alongside wreaths from other Provinces.
It will be a fitting way for Oxfordshire Freemasons to join with others from across the country in remembering those who gave their lives in service to others.
And for ‘The Prof’, it looks like he may now have another reason to get his bike out!
