On Friday the 23rd October 2026, Buttercross Lodge in Witney, Oxfordshire, welcomed 76 guests for a memorable evening combining Freemasonry, history and friendship, with a double Second Degree ceremony followed by a spectacular Trafalgar themed White Table dinner.
The evening began with the Lodge conducting a double Second Degree ceremony, marking an important milestone in the Masonic journeys of two Brethren. Following the ceremony, attention turned to a very different kind of occasion as Buttercross Lodge transformed the festive board into a traditional “Naval Mess Hall”, bringing the story of the Battle of Trafalgar to life.
Guests were taken on a journey through the events of the famous naval battle over dinner, creating an immersive and entertaining experience that celebrated one of Britain’s most significant moments in naval history.
The occasion was also a White Table Festive Board, welcoming not only Freemasons but also their families and friends. This provided an opportunity for non-Masons to experience the social side of Freemasonry, learn more about its values and enjoy the warm welcome and camaraderie that are such an important part of Lodge life. Several Brethren brought friends along to share the experience.
Trafalgar Night provides an opportunity to remember Admiral Lord Nelson and the Battle of Trafalgar, while reflecting on the enduring values of courage, friendship, service and sacrifice.
Buttercross Lodge certainly rose to the occasion, delivering an imaginative and engaging evening that combined history, fellowship and hospitality. With 76 people coming together to enjoy the celebrations, it was a wonderful demonstration of how Freemasonry can bring people together and create experiences to remember.
A huge congratulations to everyone at Buttercross Lodge who worked so hard to make the evening such a success.
